Your First Step To
Clear Vision

Ready to explore a life without glasses or contacts? The journey begins with a comprehensive LASIK consultation at Ashburn Vision Source in Ashburn, Virginia. This crucial first step determines if you are an ideal candidate for laser vision correction and sets the stage for a successful procedure.

Our goal is simple: to provide you with an honest, thorough, and precise assessment, ensuring that LASIK is the right choice for your eyes and your lifestyle.

Are You A Candidate for Lasik?

What to Expect at your LASIK Consultation:

The LASIK consultation is more than just a quick check—it's a detailed, in-depth evaluation of your eye health, vision history, and corneal anatomy. Expect to spend approximately 60 to 90 minutes at our Ashburn office for this important appointment.

1. Comprehensive Eye Exam & History

  • Vision Assessment: We'll confirm your current prescription and evaluate the quality of your vision.
  • Medical History Review: We'll discuss your general health, eye history, and any conditions that could affect the LASIK outcome.
  • Lifestyle Discussion: We want to know about your work, hobbies, and activities to understand your specific vision needs and goals.

2. Advanced Diagnostic Testing

We use state-of-the-art technology to map and measure your eyes with extreme precision:

  • Corneal Topography: Creates a detailed, three-dimensional map of your cornea's unique curvature and elevation. This is essential for planning a customized procedure.
  • Pachymetry: Measures the thickness of your cornea. Adequate corneal thickness is one of the most critical factors in determining LASIK candidacy.
  • Pupil Measurements: Measures your pupil size under various lighting conditions to minimize the risk of post-operative glare or halos.

3. The Dilated Eye Exam

To thoroughly check the health of the back of your eye (retina and optic nerve), your eyes will be dilated.

  • Important Note: Dilating drops will make your vision temporarily blurry and your eyes sensitive to light. You must arrange for alternative transportation after your consultation. We recommend bringing sunglasses!

4. One-on-One with the Doctor

You will meet with our expert eye doctors to discuss all your results. They will:

  • Confirm Candidacy: Clearly explain why you are or are not a good candidate for LASIK, PRK, or other vision correction procedures.
  • Review Options: If you are a candidate, we'll discuss the best technology for your unique eyes (e.g., all-laser LASIK, Contoura Vision, etc.).
  • Answer Your Questions: This is your time to ask about the procedure, recovery, risks, and expected outcomes.
Preparing for your lasik consultation

To ensure the most accurate results from your diagnostic testing, you must temporarily discontinue wearing contact lenses:

  • Soft Contact Lenses: Stop wearing for at least 1 week prior to your consultation.
  • Toric Soft/RGP/Hard Lenses: Stop wearing for at least 3-4 weeks prior to your consultation.

The cornea must return to its natural, uninfluenced shape for accurate measurements. Please bring your glasses and copies of your most recent eye prescriptions to the appointment.
